When he gets in my truck at 8 pm, I see that he’s changed into some jeans and a long-sleeved graphic t-shirt and tennis shoes. Similar look to mine. But I miss those slut pants.

When we arrive, the hostess tells us the wait for a table is about an hour and a half. We put his name down for the table and go to find games to play.

We play old school arcade games like Pac Man, Space Invaders, Mario Brothers, and my favorite, Galaga. We move to Skee Ball, Wack-a-Mole, and any other game that pays enough tickets to get the kids some stuffed animals to rip to shreds. It would have probably been cheaper to buy them toys compared to how much we paid to earn tickets.

The whole time we’re playing, there’s light touching and bumping. I am openly flirting with this man in public without reservations. I haven’t had this much fun in a while. His touching and teasing have me excited and wanting to leave right now to make this slow process of taking things to the next level a faster one.

We begin to play the basketball game, and naturally, since he’s as tall as the rim, he’s killing me. I only hit maybe three of the five baskets I’ve shot so far, and he’s drained all of his. The last ball he tries to shoot, I abandon my side and try to block it. I hang on his arm, and he shoots with the other.

“You are such a little cheater.” He grabs me around my waist and tickles my side. I immediately start laughing and try to pull away. But as he ducks his head close to me, I press my lips against his, catching him off guard.

At first, he freezes and doesn’t move. Did I move too quickly? And to answer my unspoken question, he deepens our kiss. His tongue seeks entry, and I allow it. My hands clasp behind his neck, and he pulls me closer to him. All of the bells, zings, and explosions of the games are no match for the fireworks going off through me from his lips touching mine, his body pressed against mine, or his arm possessively fastened around my waist.

The spell is only broken by the buzzer in my pocket going off, letting us know that our table is ready. We reluctantly separate, and my cheeks are warm from embarrassment. I never initiate, and here I am, forcing myself to step out of my comfort zone. I lower my head, so he doesn’t see the goofy grin on my face or my crimson cheeks, but he doesn’t allow it. He lifts my chin and gives me another kiss to my lips.

As we head to the hostess stand, I swear I see Jackson, but when I turn back, he isn’t there. The waiter takes us to a table for four so that we have room to sit the massive stuffed animals we won for Phoebe and Frank that will be dead soon, and we order.
